Scooters & Parts For Sale Your quick and simple resource for classic & vintage DKW scooters & parts available worldwide for all models manufactured during the 20th century. |
Founded in 1918, DKW is a former German manufacturing company that by the 1930s was the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world. The DKW Hobby was the only true 'step through' scooter produced & you will not find many for sale outside of Germany, but it is certainly worth checking the Ebay listings once in a while in the different countries as shown below as this model was also made under licence in France & branded Manurhin for the French market & Concord for the UK market, so you never know your luck!! If you do not find what you are looking for through Ebay, we would suggest that you contact one of the many DKW motorcycle owners clubs worldwide for help & advice. Failing that, please do not hesitate to e.mail us - we may just have the contact you need!! |

1955 DKW Hobby Engine Size: 74cc First Produced: 1954
DKW introduced its “Hobby” scooter in October 1954; it differed from its rivals in this category by its large 16-inch wheels and continuously variable automatic transmission. The single-cylinder two-stroke engine, a new design, developed 3 horsepower and was located under the seat, ahead of the rear wheel. The DKW Hobby scooter was also built under licence by the French gunmaker Manufacture de Machines du Haut-Rhin, better known as Manurhin Hobby. They started building the Hobby in 1956, incorporating locally made components and rebranding the machine as the Manurhin MR75 in Europe and the Concord Hobby in the UK. This scooter was constructed to a high standard and must have been one of the first motorcycles to be painted electrostatically, a process commonly known as ‘powder coating’. When DKW ceased production of the Hobby, Manurhin continued with its version, which in 1957 occupied third place in the European scooter sales chart behind Lambretta and Vespa. |
